Connectix Upgrades to OS2 Singlemode Fibre

News : September 22, 2008

OS1 has been described as the standard singlemode fibre for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks since 2002. Connectix standardised on this fibre as soon as it became available.

EN50173-1 (2007) introduced a much higher performance single

OS2 is also known as a 'low water peak' fibre. This means that water molecules trapped in the fibre, which absorb the light in the fibre around 1300 nm, have been reduced in OS2 fibre.

This has the effect of allowing more light through the fibre across a range of wavelengths near the important 1300 nm band. This makes the OS2 fibre ideal for the emerging wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technologies that can squeeze even more data capacity out of a single optical fibre.

Make sure you specify OS2 optical fibre. Available from Connectix now at no extra cost over the standard OS1 fibre.
